Sukhoi PAK FA 5th generation Russian fighter plane

The maiden flight of the first Russian fifth-generation fighter jet was completed successfully on Friday morning.
The test flight of the jet, so far known under the name PAK FA (a Russian abbreviation for the Perspective Aircraft Complex of the Frontline Aviation), was conducted near the far-eastern city of Komsomolsk-on-Amur, home of a major Russian aircraft production facility.

The press service of the Sukhoi aircraft producer reported that the 45-minute-long test flight ended successfully. “All tasks set before the pilot were successfully undertaken,” said Olga Kayukova, a spokeswoman for the company.
Little is known about the fifth-generation fighter aircraft, and even its appearance is still classified information. But to fit into fifth-generation requirements, the plane must have high maneuverability, supersonic cruise speed, high weapons payload and elements of stealth technology. The PAK FA producers say their plane is on a par with its rival – the US-made F-22 Raptor.
Ruslan Pukhov, an expert of the Centre for Analysis of Strategies and Technologies, told RT that he expected the Russian aircraft to be very competitive on international markets because its price will be significantly lower than that of the American fighter jet. “I think by definition this aircraft will be able to occupy up to one third of the market,” the analyst said.
PAK FA production is scheduled to start between 2015 and 2017.

Well , Dutch airforce needs replacement for the aged F16's ..our goverment only considers the shitty JSF (wich I think is just a bottomless money pit) , the Saab Viggen is officially still in the race too but no way the Swedes stand a chance to win the order ...the PAK would be a great choice, big bang for the euros .. lol

India was engaged early in the PAK-FA development effort, but Russian sources suggest that negotiations on the work share between HAL and Sukhoi/KnAAPO were protracted. Open sources suggest that India is responsible for 25% of the development of the PAK-FA, primarily in software and systems integration, areas where India has recent experience via the Su-30MKI program. India is to also contribute in composite materials, with claims the PAK-FA structure is, by total aircraft weight, rather than just the airframe structural weight, some 25% titanium alloys, and 20% composites. Indian sources suggest that both single and dual seat variants will be built for India.

PAK-FA Low Rate Initial Production is planned for 2013, and Full Rate Production for 2015, with initial deliveries of the Indian dual seat variant planned for 2017.It is important to consider that the publicly displayed PAK-FA prototype does not represent a production configuration of the aircraft, which is to employ a new engine design, and extensive VLO treatments which are not required on a prototype.

Wow thanks for sharing. The next generation of equipment gets more and more interesting everyday. Canadas C/F-18s need to be retired and something new must come. I know we were looking at the F-35s but I think that all fell through. I could just imagine what would happen down in the white house if Canada bought a bunch of Russian equipment, lol.
