Joseph Malta (Born November 27, 1918 in Revere, Massachusetts[1]– Died January 6, 1999 in Revere, Massachusetts[2]) was the hangman who, with John C. Woods, executed the top 10 leaders of the Third Reich in Nuremberg on October 16, 1946, for crimes against humanity. Malta was a 28-year-old U.S. Army military policeman when he volunteered for the job of hanging the men condemned by the International Military Tribunal. He hanged 60 Nazi government and military leaders. A floor sander in civilian life, Malta left the Army in 1947 and returned to his former job. "It was a pleasure doing it," noted Malta in later life, echoing the sentiments of his hangman partner John C. Woods.

Johann Reichhart (29 April 1893 – 26 April 1972) was a German executioner. He kept detailed records of his work, which amounted to 3,165 executions.

Johann Reichhart was born in Wichenbach near Wörth an der Donau into a family of executioners going back eight generations[2] to the mid-eighteenth century, which included his uncle Franz Xaver and his brother Michael. His career began in 1924 and spanned the time of the Weimar Republic and the Third Reich. Reichhart executed over 3,000 people, most of them during the period 1939–1945 when, according to his own records, 2,876[2] were put to death. In the latter years, the executions were largely from heavy sentences handed down by the Volksgerichtshof (the People's Court) for political crimes such as treason, including Sophie and Hans Scholl of the German resistance movement White Rose. Most of these sentences were carried out by Fallbeil (meaning "drop hatchet", also known as the Fallschwert, meaning "drop sword"), a shorter, largely metal re-designed German version of the French guillotine.

Albert Pierrepoint (30 March 1905 – 10 July 1992) was a long-serving hangman in England. He executed at least 400 people, about half of them war criminals, including William Joyce (one of the men dubbed "Lord Haw-Haw"), and John Amery, whom he considered the bravest man he had ever hanged.
Pierrepoint was often dubbed the Official Executioner, despite there being no such job or title. The office of executioner had traditionally been performed by the local sheriff, who increasingly delegated the task to a person of suitable character, employed and paid only when required. Pierrepoint continued to work for years in a grocery near Bradford after qualifying as an Assistant Executioner in 1932 and a Chief Executioner in 1941, in the steps of his father and uncle.

Executing the hangman..

According to former agent ‘Anton,’ in 1965 the Israeli government deployed the Mossad to South America to assassinate a Nazi in a way that would resonate internationally and make it difficult for Germany to enact a proposed statute of limitations on war criminals. The target? Latvian Herbert Cukurs, the Hangman of Riga.

As a result of actions during the occupation of Latvia from 1941 to 1944, Cukurs became known as the "Butcher of Riga".

Chilling story of Hitler's Hangman: Sadistic Nazi nicknamed the 'Head Hunter' invented his own guillotine and killed over 3,000 people before switching allegiance to the victorious Allies and executing war criminals
Nazi executioner Johann Reichhart killed over 3,000 people during his career
Reichhart ended lives of criminals and dissidents with the plunge of a guillotine
During World War II the 'remorseless' Reichhart executed 32 people on one day
He changed sides once the Reich was toppled and he started to execute Nazis
