In a Red Cross soup kitchen volunteer staff distribute soup to waiting civilians. During the German occupation the local inhabitants had suffered the effects of malnutrition due to insufficient food. After the liberation of the island the British quickly began to organize food supplies, issuing people with ration books and distributing essential food stuffs. Red Cross kitchens also assisted by providing nourishing soup.
